quick question, guys:
I have a 735mhz P3 with 320MB of ram, what's the best version of photoshop for me?

Paint Shop Pro 7 (not 8, 9 or X)

Your computer will run it, but I wouldn't recommend anything later than 6. And don't expect to do any very large image editing with that amount of RAM (Photoshop, or indeed any high-res print editing, will eat RAM for breakfast). You might get away with 7, but I can see it getting unusably slow there.

Use 6.  I had a 733mhz P3 with 128mb ram, and 6 worked fine for me (though it lagged noticably when working with high-DPI or large res images).  Upgrading to 7 did seem to make things lag a bit more, so I stayed with 6.  I suggest you do so as well.

Also, as >>3 stated, Paint Shop Pro is a bit more brisk on weaker systems, but it wasn't as intuitive or powerful as Photoshop.  I eventually took the slight performance hit from Photoshop in exchange for a richer, fuller program.  My advice?  Get both, and use PSP for simple tasks, Photoshop for getting serious.

Photoshop, intuitive?

I've found Paint Shop Pro much easier to use than Photoshop. Then again I've been following PSP since it was little more than a revved up Paintbrush in version 3 to something that competes with Photoshop in current version X.
