installing win2k from a USB HD?

Okay- I've googled to no end and I'm still stumped.

I have an old laptop for which CDROM drives are NLA and the drive in it is toast.  I need to install win2k on it, and I do have an external USB drive with nothing on it at the moment.

Can I copy a Win2k installer ISO using (linux) dd or somesuch to the USB drive?

Dunno about that but what you could do is take out the HDD from the laptop and connect it to another computer via IDE with them little 5 dolla connectors and image win2k on it.
