I fucking hate WMA

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-08 15:37

Back when I first got a computer and knew nothing about the horrors of WMA, all my CDs were burned to the format.  Now I use foobar2k, and it can't play my WMAs with the copy protection that was put on them.
I need a program that can (FOR FUCKING FREE) convert my DRM'd WMAs to MP3 or another decent format.  (no thank you, m4a)

I can't believe people go on about DRM all day.

It doesn't matter the slightest to me. Why? Because I don't use it. If I get a DRMed file (however unlikely) I simply do not use the DRM features of it, I just play it if it is a music file.

wtf are you talking about? Foobar can play AND convert drm'd WMA files.

You don't have the slightest fucking idea what you're talking about. The whole point of DRM is that you don't "choose" to use it; it's forced upon you by greedy companies who want to make as much money as possible by restricting your rights to content. For example, a DRMed music file from iTunes will only allow you to play it on certain players, and only three (I think). You can't copy it and give it to another person. Lose iTunes or use an operating system that doesn't have a version of iTunes and you're hosed.

Unable to open item for playback (Unsupported file format):
"E:\CD's\20 Suite from 'Restless'.wma"

Foobar says that about 20 times when I try to play it.

the best thing to do would really be to re-rip your CDs to mp3

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-09 20:37

all my CDs were burned to the format.
I don't understand this. Your burning program actually converted all your music to wma and then burned that?

DRM is like software AIDS

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-10 8:17

the OP is stupid

DRM is there to stop stupid people from downloading illegal music

case in point; it works

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-10 8:37

DRM is about locking out competitors. Inconveniencing customers is a side effect. People who don't want to be punished for buying music can continue downloading it from emule.

DRM will FAIL !!!

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-10 9:55

DRM already fails because it has the opposite of its intended effect. It punishes people who want to buy music, and does nothing  to stop the pirates.
