Partition Question

Name: Anonymous 2006-04-01 19:21

Ok I have two hard drives. One is running windows 98se and the other is just for storage. The main one is 80gb with 4gb left. The other is also 80gb but with around 70gb left. I want to install windows xp pro on one of them by way of partitioning, obviously. The reason I am doing this is to upgrade to xp pro from 98se. So the main two questions are how should I go about doing this, and what program should I use that won't damage the info on either of the two hard drives?

See if you can free up 7-8 GB on the main drive, copy the 10GB from the "other" drive to the main drive. Install XP on the other drive, copy files from the main drive over to the other drive which now has XP on it. (You should be able to fit it since you won't be copying Win98SE and installed programs.) Format main drive. Copy junk back to main drive which is now for storage.

Make the other drive the main drive and the main drive the storage drive. Whew.

Or, buy a 200GB drive, back up everything to it and use your 80GB drives as you please.

That's my suggestion.

I would do that except the second 80gb drive with only 10gb on it is a lot slower then the almost full one.

So what program should I use that won't damage the info on the drives?

all time classic: partition magic 8.01, I guess from symantec now. Take the bootable cd, no need to install anything, preferable multilanguage, comes with drive image, too (I think)
