Im currently in the process of building a PC, ive got a lovely windows one ( which im posting with atm ) so i was thinking of using mepis linux on the new pc at the side, As a thing I can experiment with.
Is mepis the best or would you suggest somthing else?

Why Mepis? Just go with something super fast like Gentoo or some distro with binaries compiled for Pentium 2s (Arch Linux)!

I want to use mepis rather then the other linux programs because I don't want to have to "code" everything.
That and I have experiance with mepis.

I'm currently trying out OpenSUSE 10.0, and it's not bad at all. Had to add in some external repos to get stuff like mp3 support because Novell doesn't want to get sued by patent trolls, but it's all pretty easy through YaST.

Interesting I will try OpenSUSE10.0 before I decide on an OS, thank you.  ( Btw >>1 and

Ubuntu is good, I've used it for months and the only thing that has broken was the C compliler :D

Everything updates smooth and installing things is almost as easy as Windows, if not easier :o

Piece of cake. Thats all GNOME stuff, entirely unrelated to Ubuntu and the same in all distros.
