Dreamhost announcement about copyright

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-11 19:17

Hi all...

Regarding the recent Dreamhost announcement:

"...some customers have also
begun using their accounts as a means to distribute unlicensed copyright
content in violation of US and international copyright laws.

Such content often includes commercial software, music files (ie. MP3s),
movies, anime (licensed for US distribution or not), etc.

As a reminder, please note that the distribution or procurement of
unlicensed copyrighted content in conjunction with your DreamHost account
is strictly against our Terms of Service, and can result in account
disablement - without refund or warning. Not only that, but such activity
is illegal and can result in a fair bit of legal trouble!

We will be cracking down on such unlicensed distribution in the near
future, so we ask that you go through your accounts as soon as
possible and make sure that you have received permission from the
copyright owner to distribute any content you host with us (if
you're the copyright owner, obviously, you can distribute your own
material without receiving permission!)."

I'm using my Dreamhost FTP for the sharing of (relatively obscure) anime and OSTs etc. How worried should I be about this?

I can't imagine that they're going to just cancel paying customers without warning them first. Also, I can't imagine any company complaining about the stuff we're storing... shall I just leave it?

As long as it isn't licensed in the US I don't think anyone cares about anime...

Just tell them you have permission from the copyright holder.
