More info: Using rd folder gets me "The system cannot find the file specified." 3 times. So my guess is it is corrupted. What chkdsk command checks, displays errors, but doesn't try to fix?
rd with /s? yeah. Didn't work. Tried unlocker... it didn't find a lock. Chose delete action. Nothing happened. Tried Rename action... Asked to reboot... bizarre. The problem folder is ABC in F:\456\. I renamed it to 654... now there's no folder in F:\456\ but there is a F:\456654\
I think the unlocker is locking up when it tries to delete it.

Sometimes I see folders that already actually deleted. Takes a refresh or something.

I've done several reboots. So that shouldn't be the problem.
The folder was created from a zip file extraction... oddly I could view the contents of the zip via ACDSee without problems. As I understand it, for it to be viewed it must be extracted somewhere.

This happens when e.g in XP you try to delete the "System Volume Information" in NTFS. windows doesn't allow you to delete certain folders. seems to be a problem with that setting. Maybe you have some worms...
