Compression in GIMP

Name: Anonymous 2006-03-05 1:38

The crack for Jasc Ani Shop 3 was crap; so I turned to gimp.

Gifs at about 100 frames should be 8.5MB.

How do I a) compress the fuckers and b) get hte frames in the right order?  No matter what order I put them in, the gif comes out backwards.

Finally, to the smartarses who will no doubt say 'USE IMAGERADY' answer my *GIMP* query or fuck off.

Ewww, GIMP.  It's a program that Linux fanboys always fawn over.  Too bad the UI is crap.

The UI is no problem, the problem is that it crashes all the time.

Never crashed once for me, either in Linux or in winders.

use gifsicle and in gimp make sure you are clear if you are replacing frames.. it goes from the bottom layer to the top layer.

1) Realise what makes individual GIFs small.
1a) that's "large areas of the same colour", for you tards out there.
2) Selective Guassian Blur each frame until it's nice and clean ("Filter all Layers", and SGB (radius 4, delta 20) + SGB(radius:64, delta 8) + repeat + repeat.
3) Image -> Mode -> Indexed (no color dithering).
4) save as Gif; experiment with "Animation Optimize" filter to see if it makes a smaller file.)
4a) go through each layer of the 'optimized' image and remove any unnecessary pixels. test the filesize again.
