Computer problem.

My friend bought this hp pavilion a345c, and asked me to check it out. It started up normally, but after XP loading screen disappears it goes black and all the lights on the monitor blink on/off. Any ideas of what's wrong with it?

It's almost certainly that you've got the screen set to a resolution and/or refresh rate that isn't supported by the monitor (quite possible if you're using it with a different monitor than the one it used to be used with). If the monitor can't display the image, it cuts out and indicates as such with blinking lights, or an "out of range" or similar message on the screen. To fix this, press F8 while the computer is booting up
(before the logo screen appears), and you will get a choice of boot options. Choose "VGA mode" to switch to a failsafe, supported-by-almost-everything 640x480 video mode, and then you can choose a more comfortable resolution that your monitor supports.
