Won't recognize harddrive

I just built a computer:

a8n sli premium
nvidia 6800
amd 64 3500+
yadda yadda...who gives a crap

I'm using a harddrive from another computer.  It's about two years old.  The jumpers are already set for master and all that other stuff.  The problem is that the motherboard won't even recognize that it's there.  It doesn't even show up in the BIOS.  Need advice before I just go and buy a new harddrive.

Yea, I went and got a new harddrive anyway.  I decided 80 gigs wasnt enough.
