Setting up a Windows hotspot

I'm trying to set up a connection using a Compaq iPaq (HNW-200) SB wireless adapter so that I can get online with my handhelds/consoles. WinXP's non-intuitive wireless config interface isn't very helpful in the matter. Anyone know of a procedure or software that would help me get it set up?

Correct me if I'm stupid but surely you need a wireless access point on your network, not just a computer with a wireless card.

Well, most linksys routers are pretty much a small linux computer with an onboard wireless card.
