Name: letsroll 2006-02-03 15:22

dear 4chan
i am buying a new computer, but not a whole one, i am building it myself, i though it would be easy and it isint, i am a programmer, i dont know shit about hardware, so bare withme, this is what i came up with, so before i buy may i have some suggestions.

1. cpu
--AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.0 GHz Socket 939
http//www.canadacomputers/...
$186

2.motherboard
--Asus A8N-SLI Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI w/ Dual-Ch DDR400, Gb LAN, SATA 3Gb/s, NV RAID, AI 8-Ch Audio, Dual PCI-E x16
http//www.canadacomputer/...
$144

3. graphic card
--eVGA GeForce 6600 LE / 256MB DDR / PCI Express / SLI / DVI / VGA / TV-Out / Video Card
http//www.tigerdirect.ca/...
$121

4.harddrive
--Maxtor DiamondMax 10 SATA/150 100GB 7200RPM 8MB Cache (OEM)<<
link: http//www.canadacompute/...
$72

5.soundcard
--Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS w/ 24-bit Advanced HD, 7.1-channel, 108dB SNR (OEM)
link: http//www.canadacomp/...
$74.99

6. ram
http//www.canadacomputers/...
$55

7. Case
http//www.tigerdirect/...
$58
or
http//www.tigerdirect/...
$80

yea its a nice and cheap one, but i am gonna combine it with the one i currently have, i only have a few questions, first off will the cpu+motherboard+ram be compatiable with eachother, second will my graphic card be compatiable, and third how does SLI work, like maby in the near future can i buy another of the same graphic card and plug em in together?
also if 400W enough to keep everything running stable?

that looks good, but what are you mainly going to be using the computer for?

I've never heard of Kingmax RAM, but if you can find the mobo manual online, it has a compatibility list.  (I know b/c I just bought a A8N-SLI Premium and its manual has a RAM compatibility list.  Rocket science, I know.)

Other than that, you're looking pretty good, though I wouldn't want to SLI with a 400W power supply that comes with a case.

gaming/movies, the 100gb drive will be for my movies, i have a 30gb IDE drive already for my games, this also leads my to my new question can my IDE drive connect to my new asus motherboard as well as my new SATA?

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 17:13

Check your mobo tech specs, it has the standard IDE controller.  (You'll want it for optical drives regardless, right?)

Name: eltsroll 2006-02-03 17:16

- 4 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 4GB DDR400/DDR333/DDR266 ECC/ non-ECC un-buffered DDR SDRAM memory
- Dual Channel Memory Architecture
the hell that mean?

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 17:37

ok i figured it out, i will get this ram instead
http//www.canadacomputers/...
and i am gonna change my mobo to a
http//www.canadacomputer/...
also one last question, my graphic card is it good enough to run HalfLife 2 at like 90fps?

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-03 20:51

OH, your card is good enough to run HL2 at around 120 ish. HL2 does rely on the processor a lot more than the Graphics Card, although that is of equal importance. You'll be more than fine.

sage for a thread full of idiots.

400 watts wont be enough for the stystem to be very stable though dude.. carefull with that

Troll less.

alrite thnx this helped, and mabey i might take a class in uni on hardware, just so i can meet 4chan standards, after i get all those parts i will let the guys at canada computers decide how much watt i need.

WTF man, 350 W will be enough for that

Name: letsroll 2006-02-04 18:47

well wtf people are telling me that
"400 watts wont be enough for the stystem to be very stable though dude.. carefull with that"
so waht do i do?

Just get a 500, if by some magical instance that the power dips and requires more then atleast your power supply can handle it. If you do later on require a larger power load on a future upgrade, atleast you don't have to run out and buy another PSU. They only break down when dirty bastards don't clean out their computer fans.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-05 2:34

i rather you get a 400w psu instead of that 350. a 350w psu is very very border line with today's cpus.. other then that, better ram as well.. kingston for better build and quality.. i never heard of anyone using kingwin memory modules before.. the video card would do you fine but if you plan on gamming, forget it. that card won't cut it if you game. The movo to me seems to be a waste because you have no sli, no raid and you're not ocing or having a high end cpu in it or ram.. as for the case, i would go for the 58 dollar one. the 80 dollar case is crap.. 2 output fans 80mm and 1 80mm intake fan is highly insufficent. how can 2 output 1 fans worth of air? waste of power imo.. rather just leave 1 fan on back and 1 in front. get the 50 dollar case instead.. 120mm front and back.. garuntees good cooling provided you have decent fans.

Ha ha ha, why not a 1000W PSU? R0x0r OMG!!! Or plug it directly to a power station!

I have an Athlon 64 3500+, a huge ass Golden Orb 2 CPU fan, 1 GB RAM, an AGP GeForce 6800 (128 MB VRAM), an ethernet card, two large 7200 RPM hard disks, a DVD burner, a DVD reader, a floppy disk, two 12 cm fans, and one 8 cm fan, all running smoothly with a 350W power supply.

Name: letsroll 2006-02-05 11:56

alrite then, i will get the 50$ case
and this

ram -Kingston ValueRAM PC3200 DDR400 512MB
http//www.canadacomputers/...

and i dont see the problem with my mobo?? it has SLI and raid

look: Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 SLI w/ Dual-Ch DDR400, Dual Gb LAN, SATA 3Gb/s, Dual RAID, 8-Ch Audio, Dual PCI-E

right now everything is solved, exceot my graphic card, wats wrong with it, some ppl tell me it will run HL2 at 120+ and others say it sucks for gaming?? can somone reccomend me a PCI-E nvidia graphic card that has SLI?

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-05 13:44

i'm not saying it doesn't have raid or dual channel memory abilities or any of that.. the mobo you're getting is more performance based.. you have sli but you don't use it.. why bother with the extra money? unless you plan on doing the sli + dual channel route for performance i wouldn't get it..

Name: letsroll 2006-02-05 14:20

i do plan on it, but right now i only got $900, so when i get more cash later on i'll buy a second graphic card and get dual channel mem, so right now i need is the ok, to buy this stuff and put it together.

Name: Anonymous 2006-02-05 23:50

do it man!!! best wishes to you and your new rig!
