dvd still capture advice

i'm looking to capture some stills from a movie, i've tried using windows media player and it kept cropping the images, so i switched to win dvd. i could get the capture but it came out in 640 res, and i need to be able to get some backgrounds.

any suggestion how to get high res still captures from dvd?
