Calling all linux/audio experts

Name: Anonymous 2006-01-18 17:57

Okay, some background information. I just got a gig installing linux on some guy's computer. I plan on installing Ubuntu to make it easy on me as well as him since I doubt he has any linux experience. He has given me some requirements that I must fulfill, but I'm totally stumped. Here's what he's asking for:

"An application that will provide me with high powered musical composition/editing/recording tools as well as midi interface (for guitar/dj turntables, etc.)"

Help me out guys. Thanks.

There are no Linux audio experts. That's why Linux sound systems suck so much and work so poorly.

These three are useful:

You might want to consider the following warning: If you have not used Linux before, the Ubuntu and Debian distributions are not recommended if audio is your primary goal.

Otherwise, what >>2 says applies.

Bullshit. I know at least one person who makes a living producing music/sfx on a 100% linux system, and a few who use linux alongside a more conventional setup.

There is some distro thats debian based and meant for this kinda thing, cant remember name but a google should show you it.

You're using the wrong operating system for this type of software. Use Windows XP, there is one hell of a lot more good audio software for this platform than Linux. (I would suggest OS X, but that would presumbably require a new hardware purchase.)
