Anti - Virus Sites

For some reason or another, my computer cannot connect to either http://www.mcafee.com/us, http://www.grisoft.com/, or http://www.f-secure.com/.

However, I can connect to http://www.symantec.com/index.htm.

This is definitely a virus, but my AVG hasn't picked anything up. Suggestions?

Sounds like your Hosts file has been fucked with. A number of viruses and spywares modify it to try and prevent you getting software to fix stuff, usually by pointing useful website addresses to non-routable IP addresses (typically the loopback 127.0.0.1 address). Open the file called "hosts" (no extension) in C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc using notepad or another text editor. It should only contain one line (besides the lines beginning with a # symbol):

127.0.0.1       localhost

If it has any other lines, delete them and save the file (remember, no .txt extension or anything).

IT'S A TR...oh, wait...it's completely irrelevent.

Incidentally, I now note that Claria (formerly Gator) use the inspiring description "a leader in online behavioral marketing" for their business now. Talk about sugar-coating...
