Hi, I was wondering whether I could use a 400mhz DDR ram on a motherboard that accepts only 266mhz rams. Will the 400mhz ram underclock to a 266mhz or won't it work at all?

Almost certain that it will work. If it doesn't the worst that will happen is that it'll just not detect the ram.
In that case you can just return the ram to the store where you bought it and get a refund and apply it to different ram
