Overclocking, the possibilites

Name: FrontSlash 2006-01-09 11:20

Hiya! o/

I have never overclocked my cpu (my 9600pro 256mb is OC:d though) and i would need some general guidlines how much i could overclock my cpu.

Specs on my system:
Motherboard: Abit VT7 s478 VIA PT880 chipset  FSB 800MHz  Dual DDR 400
Memory: TwinMos pc3200 400mhz CL2.5
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2 GHz 1 MB L2-cache
CPU-Cooler: Zalman 7700-alcu (120mm Zalman fan) with Artic Silver 5 paste
HDD: 2xSamsung 200gb 8mb Cache 7.2k RPM ATA/133 1xMaxtor 200gb 8mb Cache 7.2k RPM ATA/133 1x Samsung 80gb 8mb Cache 7.2k RPM ATA/133
Other cooling: 3x80mm (2x On the HDD's and 1x in the back)

How much can i overclock my CPU? And is it necessary to change the latency for the memory?

you really shouldnt overclock your CPU, video cards are ok but Cpu's not so much.

Your cpu is already fast enough to handle business, to overclock it would be stupid.

You don't do that. Besides, it's fast enough. In fact, pretty fast.

And you don't gain much from overclocking a Radeon 9600 Pro either. Instead of wasting your time, consider a GeForce 6800 Ultra.
