How do I disable sleep when a particular program is running? Say if I have bittorrent running I don't want the computer to sleep but I don't want to go to the Control Panel to disable it.

Maybe you could find some software that lets you switch your power profile from the system tray. No recommendation though.

It's not impossible, but I don't know of any program that will do that for you, so you'll need to write your own.

I think my Dell Inspiron laptop ships with such software, so some equivalent that is not tied to a particular hardware must definitely be available.

BitSpirit does this by default. You actually have to enable an option to allow your computer to sleep if your'e torrenting (or stop the torrent first).
