hive editors?

My PC is currently infected with a rootkit that's hiding its registry values. I've found the keys responsible but regedit can't see then to delete them, I've exported the registry to both a hive file and a .reg file and in the .reg file removed the offending keys in a text editor. The hive file can't easily be edited in a text viewer though so I need an editor for it.

Anyone know of programs that can convert .reg files to hive files or an editor that allows for editing hive files other than the standard windows ones (and isn't likely to be affected by the rootkit)

and yes I've googled and it's come up with score of editors which only look at the standard windows hive files but nothing along the lines of what I need
