Would this be an upgrade?

I currently have a Radeon 9800XT and I've been looking for another video card. Now here's my question: Would a Radeon X800XL be a serious upgrade from a Radeon 9800XT? Would I get my moneys worth for this card? Both are AGP cards btw.

I thought the X#00 series was PCI-E?

There are indeed AGP xSeries cards out there... they sell them where I work (Geek Squad in Best Buy).  But you're missing out a ton.. the upgrade in architecture from AGP to PCI-E is ridiculous

PCI-E is a waste of money for no performance gain (and 2 cards together is useless, better get a better card, and if you're upgrading, better get a newer card with more features and a new shader model).

Problem is, companies already wasted their money developing it. Now they want us to waste ours to pay theirs, by not making new AGP cards and motherboards.

I believe 6600GT SLI performs better than single 6800GT. Don't know where I saw that benchmark, though.

Then get a 7800GT. And you don't need two 7800GTs. And by the time you do, you won't want two 7800GTs, you'll want a 9800 or a 10800 or whatever it is because of the new features and shader model. Either way it's stupid.

The newer AGP cards IIRC have a bridge chip that bridges the native PCI-E connection to AGP.
