Coping Windows XP

Help me please,
Can I copy a Windows XP disk and run it on another computer as a second disk?   I want to use a live CD on my wife's computer, and dd her hard disk onto another hard drive, and dual boot between disk 1 with Windows Me and disk 2 with Windows XP.  Anyone know if it'll work?
Thanks.

No. If you've got the retail version of Windows XP, it has to be activated with Microsoft or it stops working after a few weeks. When you activate it sends a key to Microsoft generated by the type of hardware you have in the machine. If you install on a completely different computer, the hardware hash will be different and you will be refused activation because that copy had already been activated on different hardware.

Incidentally, why would you want to run Windows Me as well as XP? Games?

You can create an iso of the CD with Alcohol 120 then burn it as CD iso (not CD data.) It's fully-useable for 30 days.

My version of XP home worked on two computers for many months with the same serial, passing activation and using Windows Update. WU broke in the past year or so, though.

or you could just find an anti-activation crack and you're all set... (but sssshtttt; it be naughty)
