Router

My router is crap/old. I just switched from Verizon DSL to Optimum cable, works great but for some reason if i hook it up with my router it doesn't work anymore. Anybody know how to fix this? or should i go buy a new router? if so which one is good? Thanks

Hmm, I need suggestions for a wireless router as well. Been using netgear for ages, but i'm getting connection drops when all four computers are connected/heavy load. Time to jump ship to a different brand?
