Hey guys. I'm switching OS'es from Windows to Ubuntu Linux. I'm first going to use it on my Compaq Armada 500 laptop. My main question is this: What wireless networking device would be best suited for this OS? Also, What WLAN utilities do you suggest I grab before I switch OS'es?

I have a Lucent Orinoco, didn't get to test it with Ubuntu but Knoppix detects it fine.

I've used Orinoco with my Ubuntu Laptop, and it works fine out of the box. Damn good cards too.

if your chipset doesn't work for Ubuntu, use ndiswrapper and find the .inf and .sys windows driver files

I used ndiswrapper when I switched to Ubuntu. Installed the windows drivers for my linksys wusb54g adapter, now everything's just dandy. There's a howto somewhere, but I can't be arsed to fetch it. Just google 'ndiswrapper ubuntu'
