I'm looking to purchase a laptop from the internet. I am budgeted at no more than $1700 US. I'm looking for a machine capable of playing most current games on average/playable settings. I could really use some suggestions concerning name-brand laptops, places to shop, or recommended components.
Kisses,

I used to play Hitman 2 on my wife's laptop, it ran really well. I'm guessing it doesn't require much memory since, well, her laptop hardly has any.

Running older, less demanding games on a laptop is no big thing (Hitman 2 is three years old already). But to play "most current games on average/playable settings" on a laptop is another thing altogether. My laptop is newer and technically more capable than my desktop, but playing HL2 on it was so appallingly slow and clunky I couldn't even bear to play as far as the first lab scene. My desktop may be feeble in comparison to my laptop in terms of some of the raw figures, but it plays it much better. LAPTOPS ARE NOT DESIGNED FOR GAMING. And those that are (or claim to be) are often impractical, with exorbitant price tags, battery lives that can comfortably be measured in seconds, and still poor in comparison to an equivalent desktop. Yes, get a nice laptop, but don't expect it to be a gaming powerhouse.
