what is 64bit

Whats it mean for a computer to be 64bit? like windows 64 version, and cpu's that are 64 bit compared to the normal 32 bit? what is special about the 64 part in athalon 64? help plz

basically means the processor can address larger chunks of data with each clock cycle.  most software is still built around a 32 bit architecture though, so it'll be a while before most people with 64 bit chips really see any advantage.

No. It only means the addressable space is larger. What you're thinking of is the data bus width, but nobody said that had to be wider.
