My dvd drive thinks it's a plain cd one, refusing to read any dvd disc I put in it. It was working properly before I removed the CD-RW drive it would replace and stop after removal, but it still doesn't work when i tried putting back the CD-RW. Now I have a CD-RW drive and a DVD-RW drive that thinks it's a CD drive on my computer. Any idea how I may solve this problem ?

Try flashing the firmware on the drive to the newest version.

Before you go there, verify that Windows detects it as a DVD-RW drive. If you go into device manager and look at the device, it should tell you what it thinks it is.

If it's just not reading the discs, but being recognised in hardware as a DVD drive, then its optics are shot. Get a new one.

Since you are flashing, try and get a region-free firmware (Google, there are many good sites)? That way you can work around the way shitty companies try to assfuck us and shit on the global market.
