Opening up ports for slsk and eMule

Okay, I'm running Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition on a DSL 302-G Modem which is hooked up via the usb cable.

Basically the ports Soulseek (TCP 24648) and eMule (TCP 4662, UDP 4672) uses are closed. I've checked to see where the firewall is that is closing this and found nothing on the OS or Modem hindering them.

Even so, I have gone through D-Link's site for info http://www.dlink.com.au/tech/drivers/files/modems/dsl302g.htm and followed the instructions of the setup guide for "How to open ports or enable DMZ in DSL-302G".

This did not work, so I tried this site: http//www.windowsnetw/... and also followed the instructions to the letter. Yet slsk and eMule still say that the ports are closed.

What is going wrong here? I have had this problem ever since I got my own isp and haven't been able to solve it.

I'll be the first to say that I think hooking up to any broadband via USB (other than WiFi) is idiotic.

Now, addressing your problem, if you don't think it's the modem hindering access to the ports, have you checked for the settings on your PC? Perhaps you have a firewall enabled or policies in effect that inhibit use of these ports. ( I'm assuming you're referring to a hardware firewall when you talk about a firewall closing ports).

Keep in mind that it could even be your ISP who's blocking these ports. Unlikely, but you never know.

Also, have you tried to ask your ISP's tech support about this? If you can establish yourself as a slightly competant human being, they will usually answer any question you ask.
