His artwork is sub-par, especially considering the fact that he supposedly had a job as an architect, which in some ways, could be considered a professional artist. And he really should learn to ink (and draw).
Having said that, what he does know how to do well, is cater to his fanbase. All of you may hate the comic, but he knows what his fanbase wants (you know, the ones that like it). Most of them are probably non-Japanese, who wished that they could go to/be in Japan (or be Japanese). His character, Piro, whether or not it's actually a projection of himself, is the archetypal "wapanese" that most of his fanbase wishes that they could be: pretty much, someone who lives in Japan, speaks Japanese(?), can draw really well (which is how he projects himself), and is admired by Japanese people. Throw in shoujo/dating sim-like situations, and he has his fanbase hooked.
