The hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy.

The author dies before he can resolve everything. As a result, in book three it ends with a random suicidal girl to cause everyone that matters to die on planet earth.

iirc the whole earth was destroyed at the very begining of the first book

And the author died in 2001, well after the end of the fifth book. What the fuck are you going on about, >>8?

i don't understand how hitchhicker's guide to the galaxy is dystopia

Fahrenheit 451, because I love books and imagining a world without them is sad and terrible; After The Flood (Margaret Atwood), because I love anything to do with cults; A Clockwork Orange - even though it's gimmicky I've never thought of classical music as violent before

And of course you should read 1984 if you haven't already even if you don't initially like it it's iconic and all that maybe you'll finally understand all the references

Never Let Me Go by Ishiguro. It depicts a sort of peaceful and idyllic fucked up universe.

I remember reading it right after Huxley's Brave New World, which I think was more broadly depicted.

Metro. Decent series.

I don't think the Metro series counts as dystopia. It's definitely a good read, but it's more apocalyptic/end of the world type stuff.

On that note, can anyone recommend good end of the world novels?

1984.  Seriously

Perfect day, Ira Levin. Try it OP. You won't be disappointed.

The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle, Haruki Murakami
Heart of Darkness, Joseph Conrad.
The Torture Garden, Octave Mirbeau.
The Songs of Maldoror, Lucien Ducasse.

The last one you have to read in French, but if you need an english translation go for this one:

If you are at it, take some dystopian philosophy at the way out:

The Ego and Its Own, Max Stirner.

It is about the anarchist, which doesn't want to change the world. It loves the world as it is.

This one takes the conclusions of Brave New World to a new level. I quite enjoyed it. Science fiction is full of black pearls.

The Matrix Trilogy.

As in Metro 2033?
I only read 2033, but I would like to read more.
I heard there are fan translations of the other ones,  but the accuracy is pretty awful.
