What are everyone's methods for saving on textbooks?

Check them out from the library and photocopy them. This is usually impossible with textbooks that require buying the new edition each year, so what you can do in that case is get chummy with a classmate and ask if you can borrow a textbook for some reason and then make photocopies according to the syllabus (assuming the teacher was nice enough to hand out one at the start of class).

I'd pirate on the kindle.

I think the #bookz area of Underdog has a lot of file as does pirate bay.  You have the titles.
