Book Recommendation

Good evening
I have a favor to ask of the philosophers on tonight. Would you recommend Critique of Pure Reason as a book you would read? I want to get it as a present for a friend of mine. He loves philosophy. Others books he has read include The Communist Manifesto and Plato's The Republic.

You don't 'read' Critique, you analyse its language and try to keep from ever making the same mistakes. Also if he doesn't know German then Kant is pretty much fucking useless.

But if his experience includes so few authors (I'm having a hard time acknowledging Marx - he writes in the exact OPPOSITE spirit of philosophical discourse) you ought not to even give him anything that will be sure to immediately warp his nubile mind. Go a little easier. Try some Hume, Hegel, Rosseau... Descartes or Nietzsche, even.
