So I'm in the process of reading through Naked Lunch, and so far (about halfway through the book) I am loving it. So I say we discuss it and it's craziness.
Also, I'd be interested in some books that are similar.

It's been one of my favourite books for a long time. You can pick it up and read from any point. You should read some more Burroughs, Junky, Queer, Exterminator!, etc. Junky and Queer are more conventional, but bear his mark. Exterminator! is more similar to Naked Lunch.
This isn't a book, but you'd probably like David Cronenberg's film adaptation of Naked Lunch. It's an amalgamation of Naked Lunch, his other novels and episodes in Burroughs' life.

Long ago I attended a lecture given by an Oxford don of some note, wherein he referred to (The)Naked Lunch as rubbish. I still believe it's greatest contribution was to literary freedom, rather than literature.
oh, and don't worry about reading the plot summary, much in the way reading a plot summary of naked lunch doesn't tell you anything about it, this doesn't even give you the slightest idea of how insane it really is.
I've heard of that before actually. The Wiki article makes it sounds pretty great, thanks for the rec.

yeah i got about half way through Naked Lunch
i mean, it's great but it wasn't a page turner or anything. kinda just got weirder and weirder. i put it down and never got back to it, but you could kinda pick it up and start wherever you want i guess, not much of a plot.
Trivia! apparently frank zappa would use the talking asshole part as a stage monologue between songs occasionally
