I'm incredibly open-minded about the books. If there is ANYTHING to like about them, I'll see it. Am I going to be able to do that? (I'll know the answer in a few days, lol.)

OP here.
Whoever said prose was bad was lying. It's decent. Read Hemingway short stories to see what really horrible prose looks like. Or read Da Vinchi's Code.

The writing is a bit sloppy, but the plotline is fun. I was disappointed by the last book though.

To be honest, they are pretty good. Not in the sense of being literary masterpieces (fuck no) but they are a lot of fun. Just don't be dissapointed by the last book, its the terrible
i've read all the harry potter books, some more than once...they're amazing reads because they're simple (intended for a younger audience) and really enjoyable. you can go through one a day if you want
Read through book five. I don't care how many people love them, six and seven were just dreadful writing. Hello bad romance fanfiction and Japanese RPG plots.

If you want simple and enjoyable, why not read Peter and the Starcatchers, or Charlie Bone? Or even The True Meaning of Smekday?

they're alright so you'll enjoy them unless you don't want to
