What book pissed you off the most?

What book have you read that made your blood boil?
It was probably an assigned reading for school or something a friend or family member gave you to read.

For me it's Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren. Misinterpreted, out of context snippets from an ancient fairy tale, used to justify backward simple mindedness and bigotry. I can't believe millions of people read that piece of crap. And I was pretty offended when I was given it to read by a family friend.

Don't we pretty much have this thread already?

Regardless.

Catcher in the Rye. Protagonist isn't likeable he is stupid, annoying, depressed, and unwilling to get help. Also J.D. Salinger is the most obnoxious pansy in the world.

Additionally. Reading about this book series is not particularly pleasing.

Ultra-Leftist fanfiction from what it sounds.

Teenagers are often stupid, annoying, depressed, and think there is no help available for them. Catcher in the rye is a book for teenagers.

first place for me is Confederacy of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. Must've been a slow year when they gave this the Pulitzer.

second place is Ayn Rand's Atlus Shrugged.

I'll second Dunces. A friend suggested I read it and it pissed me off so much in the first chapter I put it down. It's a complete ripoff of Rabelais' Gargantua and Pantagruel (which are excellent).

Also Bend Sinister - Nabokov. I liked Lolita so I picked up Bend at random. It was so ego-masturbatingly bad I threw it at a wall.
