Sci-fi with AI

I just watched 2001 for the first time, and while it was quite a mind fuck, I want to read Clarke's novel now.  How is it?

I've also read the short story I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream...fantastic.

I'm reading The Metamorphosis of Prime Intellect now.

Any other readings that discuss rogue AI, or powerful AIs post-Singularity?

How about Charlie Stross's books with the Eschaton? Although it's not a big character.

The Takeshi Kovacs books usually have AI figuring in them somewhere.
