Advice

So, this is the only place I can think of to ask this question. Basically, I'm an aspiring writer, and I'm currently working on short stories to submit to magazines and probably get rejected, but it's something to do while I'm taking courses at the local college. However, someone (who I'm unsure about their credibility) said that this is a bad idea. What are your thoughts /book/?

If you want to get published you'll be more likely to succeed if you try to write a full length novel. Magazines have only a limited amount of room, and most of that will go to established authors and regular contributors. Also try reading some author blogs, nearly every one that I've run across are full of advice for would be authors.
