So, I just finished the Gathering Storm and I must say I was actually satisfied with it. A few epic moments and not too much bullshit. It makes me wish Jordan had kicked it somewhere after book 6 or 7 so Brandon Sanderson could have started writing.

Oh God! Brace for shitstorm!
Don't you know that /books/ hates Wheel of Time?
I personally love the new book but pretty soon the thread will be full of complaints on how the books ramble on too long, or how the last few books have introduced scores of entirely new plot threads, or how the books have a women are always right slant.

Uh, Brandon Sanderson wasn't even twenty when Lord of Chaos was released.
That said, I enjoyed the book very much also. I had a few complaints, but all in all I am very satisfied and eager for the rest. I'm not even too despondent about the plotlines in the next book as for the first time ever I'm slighty optimistic about Perrin.
It isn't so much that the women are always right as it is that most of them tend to be raging, sexist bitches.

I know /book/ hates WoT but then again most of the fans of the series also seem to hate it-- at least parts of it. I was just happy the Gathering Storm turned out so well. But I don't think anything can save Perrin's character....

His realization that maybe being all about Faile isn't such a good thing after all makes me hope.

I just started, and I'm digging the pages and pages that haven't described everything that can be known about what clothes everyone is wearing in each scene. Fingers crossed that it keeps up.

I'm about half way through it and I'm enjoying it a whole lot, but I am getting a little tired of reading about how plump every woman is.

I just finished reading The Eye of the World and it was great but it got a bit airy-fairy towards the end. I then proceeded to ruin the entire series for myself by reading all the subsequent book plots on wikipedia.
You know, I've always kind of enjoyed more extensive character description. There are far too many authors who give maybe, like, two details about the main character's physical appearance throughout the entire book.
I get the tactic of leaving certain things up to the reader's imagination, but sometimes it just seems almost lazy.

The ending definitely left me pumped for the next book.

Anyone think they can point out where Jordan's writing ended and Sanderson's began? Chapter 29 seemed to be the start of non-Jordan style writing.
How are Sanderson's other book? I was thinking about picking up the first book of the Mistborn Trilogy.

I liked it, but it probably would have been leagues better had Jordan written it. Sanderson's prose is bland and often bad compared to Jordan's. Still, there was a lot to like about TGS. It certainly was event-filled -- but that was Jordan's plan to begin with; A Memory of Light was meant to be the final book.

As far as I know the parts which have the most Jordan are the prologue and the series' end, otherwise he had written bits and pieces throughout the book, i.e. nothing that one could say here "here Jordan ends and Sanderson begins".

I've only read that very same book, and while it definitely had some ideas and an excellent magic system, I thought the characters were rather bland. I'm going to continue reading Mistborn but it is not a priority.
Of course, the series seems to have a number of fans, so you should probably try it regardless.

I'm reading Mistborn right now and I actually really like it.

I actually bought Mistborn for my brother for Christmas and, since I am quite far away and otherwise bookless, decided to read the first one. Interesting magic system, and the writing flowed nicely, but some characters were bland, some choices seemed awkward and out-of-character, and some of the events in the last chunk of the book seemed to happen too quickly. It almost could've ended following the market square scene and have been a better book, the last part felt so rushed at times.
Quite a good read overall though, it did surprise me once or twice, and kept me up reading to the end even though I'd planned on going to sleep at the end of a chapter over 100 pages before it.
