The Stand

Goddamnit guys, what the hell is wrong with this book? I mean the first part about the spreading plague was great, but after that the story lost all direction, there are absolutely no likable characters except for Tom Cullen, and basically nothing ever happens. I am at page 950something now with still over 300 pages left to go and I have no clue why I am still reading this other that to be able to tell myself I haven't wasted 10 bucks and a whole month getting this far.
I really liked The Dark Tower and The Shining so I thought King was allright but goddamnit, reading this book is like torturing myself.
Is there anyone who honestly likes this book and can motivate me to finish this?

I read through the plague part in just a few days But after that a whole month of reading 10 to 20 pages a day because it's that fucking uneventful.

I read the book when I was like 13 and loved it. Over 10 years later, and I still remember most of the characters well..

I guess I've always liked character studies over eventfulness though. When I read spiderman as a kid I used to skip the action parts and just read the parts where he was dealing with problems at school or with Mary Jane.

So, yeah, that's why I liked it--Reading how all the different characters, with different personalities, reacted to a circumstance that doesn't seem too improbable--And, how it changed them over time...

If you liked The Dark Tower series I'm amazed you're complaining about this book instead of that.
