Then let me explain then that yes, Gankutsuou was a well done anime. It was interesting to see just how classic literature could be turned into an anime. The animation style was interesting, and I didn't even mind the sci-fi input. However out of all the literature books that had/suggested homosexuality, Count of Monte Cristo wasn't exactly one of them, so I found that the creators' choice for Gankutsuou to include it was strange. Not that it was an overwhelming amount, and not that I care about such things... but some of the characters were also drastically changed. It was the interesting personalities of the characters (mostly the Count) that caused me to enjoy the book.
So to me, Count of Monte Cristo >>>> Gankutsuou. Some people may not like reading long books, so that may be why they liked the anime better, so it's just an opinion.
