Catcher in the Rye & Perks

Name: Anonymous 2009-08-23 0:05

I'm looking for books like The Catcher in the Rye and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
This is for a friend of mine. Korean, been here a couple years and liked these two books, and has no preconceived notions of hipster shit so I know she genuinely enjoyed them. I'd like to find some good stuff that is similar. I guess she liked the fairly plain vocabulary (she has to ask what a lot of words mean) and I know she liked the depressing nature of the stories. She frequently borrows my music player and the music she tells me she likes is always the saddest out of the bunch.

What are some recommended books that may interest her?

And this is my first time posting here, or visiting here, for that matter. I didn't even know we had a /books/ board. So I don't know what the community is like here, but hopefully it's not as shitty and troll-y as the rest of 4chan is. Hopefully it's somewhere I can come and talk about worthwhile stuff and meet new anon friends.
