hey /book/, I was wondering whether or not I should pick up "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. Has anyone here read it? What'd you think of it?

I read it, but I barely remember it. As I recall it's another sort of self-actualization self help book like Richard Bach's, or even Hesse's Demian, and Zen and the Art of...
Not bad, I guess. My cousin loved it.

It's the preachy-est book I've ever read, but it's a classic. You should ready it anyway.

This is so sad. So many families destroyed and innocent little girls killed. It makes me sick!

It's really good. I don't remember a girl getting killed and i read it shitloads. Abit preachy, but you can see it different ways. I.e. the main character's inner voices and ideas as the "god".

Honestly, don't bother. There isn't really much you can get from it, unless you've been deprived of logic, common sense and morality your entire life. People only praise it because they want to feel deep, and because the whole 'unspoken-secrets-of-life-actually-written-down' thing appeals to them.
It's also a really short read and yeah, it's not written that well, i.e. very simply.
