American Gods by Neil Gaiman

Did anyone like the book? I just finished reading it.  The premise really pulled me in but I thought he stuttered in its execution. It's better than most of the fantasy(which I guess it falls into) that I read, but seeing as the last fantasy book I read was part of the WoT series, the bar isn't very high.

How are his other books?

The entire subplot with Hinzelmann and that random small town was pointless. Felt like I'd fallen into a Stephen King book. "OOOOH SMALL TOWNS WITH SCARY THINGS AND INSCRUTABLE/EVIL TRADITIONS, SO SCARY." Give me a fucking break.

The New Gods weren't fleshed out nearly well enough.

Never explained why the Christian/Muslim/whatever Gods weren't in the story. I realize why they wouldn't be taking part in the war, because they have no shortage of believers, but why weren't they even there?

A decent book, though. Good read.
