I notice the time wasted on certain habits could be better spent on reading. How does one make it a habit of reading instead of doing other things?

I want to know this also.
I enjoy reading, but to get myself to sit down and read a book is like moving an elephant.

Are there any habitual actions before sitting down to read like drinking tea?

I crawl into bed to read which helps because once I'm in it I'm too lazy to get out.

Force yourself to read the first few chapters, then you get sucked in and can't put the book down.

yeah i find i love reading but to start reading it's quite a challenge.
once i start its hard to stop
i usually get myself to read a minimum amount of pages a day, so at some point throughout the day i'll end up reading.
same thing with watching movies

I used to be able to read all the time just by curling up in bed with a good book.
Nowadays I find myself less and less willing to read a book and more engaged in less mentally strenuous activities(like videogames and watching movies).
Hopefully it's just a phase.

I think it just is the question of routinely finding good books that interest you.
I go through phases of not reading for months and then sucking p every book I can read-- Only because for months I can't find any interesting books. So, try your local bookstore weekly?

And/Or local library, if you've got a good one nearby.

B&N is an anti-reading environment. The soundtrack to Hairspray is not conducive to absorbing literature.

I smoke some pot, go to a room in my house with no distractions and get absorbed in the book for a couple of hours.

I'm usually always bored so it comes pretty natural.
