I've been in a Star Warsy mood lately. Which is a little strange since I'm not a huge fan of the movies. I really like the universe though and I was wondering if you all could recommend me some Star Wars novels. I've read several of the X-Wing series and thought they were pretty decent.
I would prefer books that don't star the leading characters from the movies.
Are some of the new books about the Clone Wars any good?

Old Man's War.
Not a Star Wars novel. But still has all the crazy ultra-tech and ACTION ACTION ACTION.

Already read Old Man's War. I liked it alot. The sequel I felt was less awesome.
Read all of the x-wing series. They were by far my favorite expanded universe books. Also the Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn, is classic, and very awesome, as are just about all his other Star Wars books.
If you read that, and find yourself really getting into the EU, just start reading stuff in general order (the new books have chronologies in the front) and maybe you'll find yourself getting into the New Jedi Order, and Legacy of the Force stuff.

I like Timothy Zahn, but I've not read any of his SW books, though I do know that they are considered classics.

The Han Solo trilogy wasn't bad, if you can find it.

I need to read a Star Wars book that feels like I gained something from the time spent reading through it. The Zahn Trilogy didn't do that for me.

That was good I'd recommend it too. I heard some of the Clone Wars books that dealt with Clone Troopers or the Clone Special Forces were good
