Hey /book/, I'm hoping you can give me some suggested fiction about or set during war. At the risk of sounding pretentious, I'm looking only for things that would be considered literature, as opposed to page-turning thrillers and whatnot.

For example, I just read Farewell to Arms, and that was pretty awesome. More stuff like that, though not necessarily about WW1 (but it could be}.

Thanks book.

It's not fiction, but T.E. Lawrence's The Seven Pillars of Wisdom is amazing, and it's WW1. There was a short version called Revolt in the Desert, but it was pretty bad.

Catch 22. Hilarious, but does deal with the horrors of war.

Goodbye to all that by Robert Graves. He was a friend of T.E. Lawrence, killed himself.

Guadalcanal Diary Is excellent.

The Sharpe's Rifles series is really good, if a little formulaic.

Regarding his death, all I could find was that he died at the age of 90, senile.  The book looks great, thanks.
