The catcher in the rye

So, I'm thinking of readin "The catcher in the rye". I heard it's a bit overrated. What are your thoughts on this book?

Another vote for 'overrated' - having dirty language and getting banned made the book seen edgy in the past, but in the present it's just a dated book with a whiny protagonist. The only reason to read it is to understand how literature and standards of decency have changed over time, the story itself is kind of boring.
