So I went to Waterstones today to buy a book for my dad for father's day. I ended him buying him The Road as he will no doubt want to see the film when it comes out and I'd rather he read the book first, I just don't think the film will do it justice.
Anyway, it was buy 2 get 3rd free so I bought myself Hell's Angels by Hunter S. Thompson and The Quanitity Theory of Insanity by Will Self. Are they any good? I've read and enjoyed some Thompson before but Will Self is new to me.

I've only read a will self collection of short stories, but it fucking rocked.
And hells angels is one of my all time favourite books. Good choice.

The Road is a great book.
Distinct style and hits hard emotionally.

Will Self just uses a lot of long words to say dumb things, so certain circles think he's ace. Hell's Angels by H.S.T. is his absolute best book, and a great read.

No, Will Self legitimately rules. I realize you aren't smart enough to see why, so just trust me on this.
The Road isn't that great of a book. It's depressing and not much happens. The book centers around the dialogue of father and son, you never learn their names, but the dialogue doesn't seem natural.
