How can I get myself to read more?

Name: Anonymous 2009-02-22 21:48

I would love to read more, but I find that: (1) I don't have enough time to read; and (2) I tend to read too slowly (maybe one paperback page per minute).

How do you guys read more? What's your reading schedule like? I'm in my late 20s, I have a 10-6 job, and when I get home, I usually waste my time on 4chan instead of read.

What can I do to read more?

stop wasting time on 4chan

Well if you're serious about not procrastinating then get rid of your computer. and finding a good book helps. Get some suggestions from your friends and coworkers.

well actually seeing as a computer and internet connection is a good source of free books getting rid of it might be a bad idea

I'm sure you already know the answer to that equation, it's just a question of whether you want to do anything about it.

If you don't want to stop entirely, at least control the time. It's all too easy to become a zombie refreshing the boards.

Try to go a day or two without even opening the computer, maybe?

Fuck over AAAALLLL your friends. Be a compulsive liar. Get out of anything remotely related to possibly involving social interaction.

The fucking over all your friends part is especially fun.

1 - Find time. What do you want us to say?

2 - Read more. The more you read, the easier it will be for you to read. Everything takes practice.

Do you even need to ask? The only way you're ever going to read more is if you stop trying to come up with some scheme to read more and, instead, actually start reading more.

DM: As you exit the forest you come onto an open field of grass with a gazebo standing in the center.
Player: What's the gazebo doing?
DM: It's a gazebo. It's just sitting there.
Player: Okay.... I shoot an arrow at the gazebo.
DM: Okay, now it's a gazebo with an arrow in it..
Player: Alright... uh... I slowly walk towards the gazebo and I cast enchant to paralyze it.
DM: THE GAZEBO JUMPS UP AND EATS YOU! ARE YOU HARPY NOW?!
ROLL A NEW CHARACTER AND READ THIS DEFINITION IN THE DICTIONARY!
