A song of ice and fire. Is it any good? what about the dunk and egg books?

Ice and Fire is A-Awesome. A bit different from a lot of fantasy out there. You'll see what I mean. I would jump to it if I were you. You won't regret it.

Currently reading the frst book, it isn't very good so far. I'm at the (early, I know) point where the boy sees the Queen have sex with her brother and is then killed, and everything is both cheap and poorly composed. I wonder if it's going to improve.

Yes, it does improve. It's fantastic, one of my favorite series now. Everything 4chan loves and more.

Really, why is it that the best authors all seem to be dicking around these days?  Martin, Lynch, and Rothfuss have all had books pushed back to 09.  I excuse Rothfuss because he's had some serious personal/family problems.  Lynch missed his turn-in date but really, his pace seemed a bit too quick to keep up, and since he's disappeared from the internet for 10 months, I assume he's working his ass off to get the next Locke Lamora book done.

But fucking GRRM.  Considering Feast and Dance were originally the same book, he's actually been working on it for like 9 years, since Storm.  It's already years late, but instead of finishing the thing, he went on a tour of europe, and is going to another con in a few days, and keeps taking other jobs, like editing the Wild Cards books the new Jack Vance tribute collection.  Hes going to die before Winds of Winter, I just know it.  Probably before Dance too at this rate.

At least we still have Erikson.  He cranks out three or four 1000+ page masterpieces for every one of Martin's.

It's the best series I've ever read. So amazing I can't sleep when I read it at bedtime because sometimes it invokes strong emotions inside me. And the characters aren't similar in any ways, unlike some other series.

it's fucking epic.
