The Road

I imagine this book gets posted here more than /book/ would like. It was assigned over the summer for the freshman. Finally got around to taking myself to college.

Anyways -- I've talked to some other people I know that read it. They swear it's a great book. Makes them think about how we can always find hope, harsh realities, surviving in a post-apocalyptic world, etc.

But to me this book was really, really bland. Watered down Fallout fanfic, anyone? Seriously, in my opinion, this is mediocre at best. I'd really give it a 3.5 or a 4 out of 10.

I'm worried that I must be missing something. Since this book will occupy a good portion of my first semester at the college, and my loans are directly dependent on my grades, I'd like to make sure I've got the best grasp of this book as possible. Any halp?

Somewhat relevant: Any suggestions for GOOD post-apocalyptic novels?

I Am Legend is an awesome book that outdoes the movie on every level. And don't worry, the movie's ending has nothing to do with the book.
